CHALLENGE
Aligning with the company’s direction to provide excellent banking services to its customers through innovation and digitalization, UnionBank’s HR team has set its course to optimize recruitment processes using the latest assessment technologies in the market.
In the past, UnionBank’s Human Resources team was using pen-and-paper assessments in screening its candidates nationwide. Screening approximately thousands of applicants per year, their current tool consumed most of their manpower hours to do manual tasks like sending out invitations one at a time, setting up testing centers, manually checking test papers and creating reports. As a result, these took time away from HR to do other critical tasks.
At the same time, this manual process also created an unfavorable candidate experience where candidates from the outside capital region needed to take long trips to take their assessment at UnionBank’s head office and wait almost half a day for the results.
UnionBank sought to move away from this manual process and upgrade their screening process to a digital and technology-enabled process.
SOLUTION
To address these problems, UnionBank has partnered with TalentView and used Talegent as their assessment tool—screening the candidates in a more cost-efficient way. By customizing their assessments for sales and service assistants (which are the bank’s bulk requirement) to account officers, UnionBank is able to measure the cognitive ability of the candidates through Talegent’s logical, verbal and numerical reasoning assessments.

With Talegent in place, candidates are able to take their assessment sessions in the comfort of their homes. Meanwhile, HR is able to invite candidates in bulk, generate reports instantly after sessions are completed—making the screening and selection process faster than before.
In addition, UnionBank is able to manage its talent pool using the same Talegent platform. A recommended job position is given to each candidate based on their strongest competencies. As a result, recruiters are able to tap into an existing candidate who may not qualify for one job but fits another.
The use of Talegent also reduced recruiting costs because they no longer need rooms and computers for candidates’ assessment. At the same time, automating assessment result generation saved manpower costs.
Today, UnionBank has expanded their usage of Talegent for incumbents to gain an understanding of the current talent’s potential for leadership roles seeing who has the potential to move at an upward level in the bank.
