Is Now a Good Time to Hire?

Is Now a Good Time to Hire?

The COVID-19 pandemic has posed unprecedented, challenging situations to a lot of businesses across the globe. But as it hits the global economy, business leaders need to re-strategise, not just for the survival of their company, but for the various opportunities, the current situation can create. Among these is the chance of being able to hire the best talent in the workforce who are currently on a job hunt.

Hiring the best talent is the perfect opportunity to grow and develop your workforce and envision a better future for your business. However, this can only be done if you’ve got the proper resources or capacity to do so amidst the pandemic.

Now that other businesses are focused on cost-reduction measures by downsizing and freezing recruitment drives, this will be good timing for well-capitalized and visionary companies to hire and strengthen the organisation for long-term goals.

The best leaders and organisations who possess high grit and resilience can strive and use this challenging situation to their advantage. Here’s how you can do it too:

Know what you need.

This is a simple but crucial task. Talk to your top leaders or key players in your recruitment team and ask them to list down at least three to five individuals that stood out over the past five years in the organisation.

These people can be contractors, consultants, or potential candidates during your company’s past recruitment drives. You can meet and identify those who have the best competencies that are relevant and compatible with your company’s current needs. There is a great chance that a percentage of these people are having trouble with their employment in these trying times, so take a shot.

Designate a sourcing team for each sector.

If you have enough people in your recruitment team, you can try this strategy. Set up a task force that is assigned to source out potential candidates for target sectors or companies who may now be on forced leave, unemployed, or open to changing companies.

You have to require your HR leaders to level up their game on scouting for outstanding people, especially in the hard-hit sectors such as airlines, hotels, and recreation.

Streamline a new hiring process.

The technology has enabled the recruitment industry to reinvent their processes. Take advantage of the availability of online assessments, video interviewing, and gamified assessments to assess individuals remotely with ease.

With work from home arrangements, you can attract more people to work for you when they realize you consider their well-being while improving your workforce.

Motivate the best candidates.

If you decide to onboard certain individuals, motivate them by inviting them for a talk over coffee with your senior leaders who can share their love and passion about the company.

Helping the new hires create a connection with their colleagues can help them understand more how your business works.

Furthermore, think about the other benefits that you can provide, this includes competitive compensation, high level of autonomy, and flexible working arrangements.

Develop your in-house talents.

Do not forget to take a look at who you already have in the organization.

An easy way to stay ahead of the competition is to upskill your existing talent – which can often be cheaper than bringing new people onboard.

Assess your key players’ capabilities and capacities to take on new challenges of being either promoted or transferred to a new department. While onboarding great talents, you also have to ensure that you retain your current outstanding performers.

This crisis might have caused an impactful trauma to the world, specifically the business sector, but we can also learn a lot from this situation.

Growing your workforce will always play a valuable role in succeeding as a business, you just need to have the right resources and strategy to do it even while facing the current pressing situation.
