Five Ways to Improve Employee Experience with Bots

HR teams are facing an overwhelming number of responsibilities and projects, with limited resources, making technology a crucial helping hand.

Following two strenuous years, HR teams are fatigued. According to a recent report, 98% of HR decision-makers acknowledged that the pandemic had altered their job description, with 70% of them admitting that this has been among the most difficult years of their career. In the employee experience 2023 report, 65% of people believed that they have paper-based or offline processes that could be digitised or updated to a more modern approach.

Fortunately, technology has come to the rescue with digital assistants that can automate manual tasks that consume significant amounts of time for HR teams, and simplify processes to offer better, more immediate, and accessible HR tools to staff, whether they work in an office, as field agents, or on the front lines.

In what ways can digital assistants and bots help HR teams?

Here are five ways digital assistants and bots can help HR teams:

Better Onboarding: With the Great Resignation, companies need to onboard new employees to fill vacant positions. 53% of HR professionals say employee engagement increases when onboarding is improved, and 69% of employees are likely to stay with a company for 3+ years if they experience great onboarding.

Clearly, there is a real need for quality onboarding, and yet 76% of HR leaders say employee onboarding practices are underutilized at their organization.Automated onboarding assistants provide a consistent and quality onboarding experience while answering new employees' commonly asked questions. New starter surveys can also be used to gather feedback and improve the onboarding process. This can also significantly reduce the number of emails processed by HR and received by employees. 

Training and Upskilling Staff: HR teams place significant importance on staff training, and rightfully so. Research shows that investing in employee learning and development can lead to increased employee retention, with 94% of employees stating that they would stay at a company longer if it offered such opportunities.

Well-trained staff not only perform better, but they also tend to be more engaged and loyal. However, it is concerning that almost 59% of employees have reported receiving no workplace training, and, instead, had to rely on self-teaching to acquire most of their skills. This represents a significant missed opportunity for organizations.Bots and digital assistants can be used to provide automated reminders about learning opportunities, gather feedback on training materials, and even create personalized training tools for different functions of the business. 


Appreciating and Rewarding Employees: According to the Employee Experience report of 2023, 94.3% of people feel that employee engagement is important at their company and nearly 87% of employees feel comfortable voicing their opinions, and 86% receive recognition from management and their colleagues or peers.bRecognition positively impacts engagement, productivity, and performance. Gathering Feedback and Ideas: According to a recent study, 64% of HR leaders consider an always-on feedback tool crucial for an effective engagement listening program. However, the implementation rate of such tools is low, with only 20% of companies having this type of system in place. This disparity is also reflected in the views of employees, as 58% of them wish their company conducted employee engagement surveys more frequently.

Similarly, only 45% of frontline staff share their ideas with senior team members, 25% of employees have had an idea but never told anyone, and a further 38% have shared their idea only for it to be ignored.Regular pulse surveys can be sent out using digital assistants and bots, providing a reliable and automated way of gathering feedback. Additionally, staff can easily share feedback or ideas with central teams, regardless of their location.


Promoting Employee Wellness Initiatives: The Wellable Employee Wellness Industry Trends Report reveals that mental health has become a top priority for employers, with 9 out of 10 planning to increase their investments in this area. The past two years have had a significant impact, as 78% of employees report that the pandemic has negatively affected their mental health, and 76% believe that companies should be doing more to address this issue.


Bots and digital assistants can be used to promote wellness initiatives such as active listening, empathetic leadership, revisiting company values, and providing access to wellness programs and resources, all of which can have a positive impact on staff both inside and outside of work.
