Jollibee Foods Corporation initiates JFC-wide alignment of Competency Framework
CHALLENGE
A dominant market leader among fast-food chains in the Philippines, Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC) has undergone many changes throughout the years. Today, with a total of over 3,200 stores, more than 10 brands, and an expanded international presence, JFC continues to grow into its vision of becoming one of the top 5 restaurant companies in the world.
Given JFC’s progressive global expansion, they needed to update their competency frameworks and establish alignment across the business to clarify expectations and to set standards for employee performance. JFC also wanted to focus their initiatives on establishing individualized development interventions to develop a globally competent workforce.
SOLUTION
JFC worked with TalentView to update their Functional Competencies for all 16 job families to define what desired behaviors and culture are critical to their organizational success. The competency frameworks were built to help JFC employees understand the behaviors and skills expected of them and what they should strive to achieve.
TalentView did a top-down approach to build simplified and easy to administer competency frameworks for JFC. The competency frameworks were developed through three phases of research:
- Strategic Interview
- Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with subject matter experts (SMEs)
- Validation FGD with strategic leaders.
The strategic interview with top leaders was done to define the business objectives of JFC. Deep diving on JFC’s culture, TalentView also organized the FGDs to gain an in-depth understanding of the roles within the business. Once the competency rubrics were finalized, a validation meeting was conducted for alignment and final reviewing with the SMEs and top leaders.
Moving forward to the implementation, JFC partnered with TalentView to build a competency blueprint to help them cascade the finished competency frameworks to their employees.
Jollibee's Competency Framework Methodology
RESULTS
With the competency frameworks in place, JFC has set 7 competencies for its 16 job families which will be used to objectively hire, develop, and assess the performance of their talents across a well-defined set of behaviors, skills, and knowledge.
7 COMPETENCIES FOR 16 JOB FAMILIES
A connecting link between business strategies, talents, and culture, the newly established competency frameworks will ultimately influence all facets of the employee lifecycle from recruitment, training, performance management, and succession planning of JFC.
What I appreciate about TalentView is that they are flexible most of the time. Given that this is the first time for JFC to create a JFC-wide initiative, we are also learning about the intricacies as we progress with this project.
